Creating Passion and Purpose in Your Life

Ep: 228

How long have you been feeling stuck in your life or career?

We’ve all heard that “change is hard”. It can certainly feel that way and our minds are capable of inventing countless obstacles that keep us from budging.

But the truth is that you’ve seen other people create change and transform their lives. So that begs the question…what’s really holding you back?

Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment®, Blake challenges you to ask yourself the big question:

What must I believe in order to keep doing this day after day?

In this episode, you’ll learn that your beliefs are the real culprit, and why shifting them is the first step toward transformation. You’ll discover where these limiting beliefs come from, and learn how you can start to shift those thoughts. You’ll hear how to stop blaming timing and circumstances and finally start to move in the direction of your true passion and purpose in life.

The growth and transformation you seek starts and ends with you.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The difference between people who stay stuck and those who pursue change (2:37)

  • Lessons from ascending into alignment (5:52)
  • Recognizing the most important investment in your life (7:16)
  • Considering how your beliefs might be shaping your inaction (10:11)

Transformation, it may be a word that inspires you, or it may be something that brings up maybe fear of change, or a feeling of not knowing what that means or how to bring it to fruition. But I’ll tell you, it’s something I’ve been doing my whole life, transforming businesses, transforming people’s lives, transforming my own. And through this journey, what I’ve really come to understand is that as humans, there are so many things we don’t understand about ourselves. As a society, we strive to fit in. As kids were taught that you should be equally good at everything. And we have a school system that encourages everyone to learn and do things in the same way. And yet, as my mentor, Dr. Jeff says, there’s only one of you in all of creation.

Blake Schofield 1:42
And often what I see is when we get to places in our lives and our careers where we’re unfulfilled, one of the biggest mistakes is this believing that we’re stuck in a circumstance that we’re in. Or that making a change and transforming into something else is risky, or scary, or has to be hard, difficult, or painful. And it’s those beliefs that keep us trapped, day after day, on the hamster wheel, doing the things that we know ultimately aren’t creating the fulfilling lives that we want and that we deserve.

Blake Schofield 2:20
You know, I just recently got back from an amazing trip to visit friends. And what I saw was what I consistently see. And that’s as much as we like to think our experience is difference, we experience much of the same. So then what distinguishes somebody who is able to fully step into the life that they want, the success that they want, defined in their own terms versus people who aren’t. And I would say, it’s a willingness to challenge your belief system, and openness to seeing life in a different way. And an understanding that it isn’t the circumstances that we need to be a certain way in order to create change. It’s actually dependent on us, because there will never be a perfect time, perfect circumstance, to create what you want. And often those things that we think we need are the very things that keep us stuck. But what I see consistently is that most of us, and this is how I live the majority of my life, are living life out of fear. And it is that fear that keeps us trapped.

Blake Schofield 3:33
I’m going to share with you a quote that pulled up earlier this week. I love it. It’s by Marianne Williamson. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous. Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God, you’re playing small does not serve the world. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us. It’s an every one. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Blake Schofield 4:31
I think there’s such beauty and such wisdom in that. Because it’s more rare in our society today, to be aligned and passionate about our lives, and our careers, and what we’re doing every day. We are actually built to strive, we are built to grow and learn. And what I see as sort of two things. Either people who are focused on growing and learning but they haven’t clean the windshield and remove the friction in getting alignment in their life. And so they’re just working so hard to try to achieve. And they believe that the hard work is going to eventually pay off and get them where they want to go. That creates cycles of burnout, of fearing that you’re not good enough, of feeling like you don’t know how to feel confident that you can achieve your goals. And chasing of a lot of things, solutions, certifications, reading, education, in the belief that the answer lies outside of you.

Blake Schofield 5:36
Or a disappointment with feeling like, this is just as good as it is, and a stuckness, and a life that isn’t really fulfilling or passionate in the way that you wanted it to be. And I have lived in both of those places. And here’s what I can tell you having lived and really up leveled and ascended out of those levels into a place of joy, peace, fulfillment, alignment, ease, the ability to achieve my goals without all of the hustle and grind. And it’s this, the path to truly creating what you want and moving from a place of your circumstances, driving your life, into a place of becoming the creator of your life, starts with understanding that it all starts and stops with you.

Blake Schofield 6:35
And that you aren’t unique, the things that you struggle with, everyone else has struggled with too. But understanding that the people that you see, who’ve achieved things you want to achieve, they’re not special, they’re not different than you. That what they have achieved is also possible for you too. But it likely starts with recognizing that, maybe you don’t know at all. Despite how many times you’ve tried things and done things, that maybe there’s some things you haven’t consider, haven’t tried. And that maybe through allowing yourself to recognize that you are the most important investment in your life, you can begin to take steps to see the world differently. To have different decision making criteria, to remove the fear, doubt, anxiety, overthinking, overworking, that are actually stopping you from creating what you want.

Blake Schofield 7:47
It was in the stripping away of the belief systems I had formed, the perspectives I had about what was and wasn’t possible. But I’ve been able to come into more of who I really am, make a bigger impact, live a life of far more purpose and passion, and be able to help others do the same. But I would have never thought in a million years that it started with me, I would have never understood at the beginning of this journey, that it was my lack of investing in myself, and investing in learning and seeing the world differently. That was actually what kept me trapped.

Blake Schofield 8:25
And so today, I share this with you because my true passion is helping people, truly understand their unique value. Removing the barriers that are stopping them from achieving that more fulfilling, more purposeful, or impactful life. And doing it with a lot less work, a whole lot more ease and peace of mind. And I see truly that it’s possible for everyone. But in order for you to step into that and believe it’s possible for you too, you have to be open, that there may be things you don’t know. There may be other paths or opportunities or ways of looking at the world, ways of living, and ways of doing things that could be easier. That could create more joy, and could ultimately get you where you want to go. And so I love this quote by Marianne Williamson because she said it’s not our inadequacy, right. But it’s our fear of who am I to be X, Y, or Z. And ultimately, I think it’s both and when we’re ruled by fear, we’ll never be able to expand, because fear contracts opportunities, fear steals opportunity. Fear keeps us stuck repeating the same patterns. And so we must learn how to overcome our fears. And yes, it’s totally possible.

Blake Schofield 9:53
We must learn how to strip those out of our way, so that we can begin to see the possibility. So that we can begin to live, think, and act differently. And in doing so, we open up the possibilities for our lives. So as the takeaway from today, I want to challenge you to think about your life. Where are you today? Are you that person who has just set yourself, maybe this is as good as it is, and you feel like you’re just going through the motions? Or are you that person that’s working so hard seeking the answers, but it doesn’t seem to be yielding results. In either place, I challenge you to ask yourself, What must I believe in order to keep doing this day after day? Is it that I believe that change has to be long, painful, or difficult? Is it maybe that my brain is telling me it’s not possible for me? Is it that I’m fearful of making a mistake or having somebody think that I’m not successful, or I’m not as good as they thought that I was.

Blake Schofield 11:02
Because if any of those things are the things holding you back, I want to give you hope, today. Hope today to understand every single one of those fears, doubts, and anxieties, you can alleviate in your life. And yes, I did say that you can alleviate those things in your life. And when you do, you can begin to see things differently. And you can really begin to step into your life in a far more impactful, far more passionate, far more present way, where you’re enjoying your life on a day to day basis. Because at the end of the day, we have so many days, months, and years here. Every day, you aren’t living a life that’s truly aligned with how you want to feel, what you’re passionate about. And the things you really value is a day you can’t get back.

Blake Schofield 11:58
But you can start today, you can take one step forward in investing and learning how to remove the barriers that stand in your way, step by step. And each one of those steps gets you closer, and closer, and closer, to the life that you really have dreamed of. And helps you learn how to move from a place of your circumstances driving your life to a place where you truly can create the life you want. Thanks so much for joining me. Until next time, have a great week.
