The Key to Making Sure Your Next Path is the RIGHT One for You

Ep: 35

“We struggle to have clarity on what the right path is when we don’t understand who we are and how we create value in the world.” –Blake Schofield (01:44-2:00)

What’s the key to making sure your new path is right for you?

Finding the right path comes from increasing your self-awareness, uncovering your values in life, and recognizing the things that give you energy and momentum.

Walking away from a career you spent years establishing can be scary. But most people find that their career is just a box they’ve been trapped in for too long. This can cause them to believe that there’s only a certain value they can contribute or there’s only a certain way they can be successful. But this isn’t the truth.

“Force creates counterforce. When you try to force things, you get even more stuck.” – Blake Schofield (05:22-5:33)

4 Ways to Be More Self-Aware

  1. Relax Your Mind

If you’re like most people, then your mind probably runs a mile a minute. You might even struggle to get to sleep because you’re always thinking—worrying that you’ve got everything taken care of and nothing is falling through the cracks.

Or, you might be the type of person who’s always researching new ideas and different ways to do things. So, relaxing your mind can seem impossible. But our brains are actually quite malleable. We can take steps to retrain how we think and operate.

Relaxing your mind comes from having the techniques to reframe and think differently. Just because thoughts come up for you, it doesn’t actually mean they’re true. The stress our thoughts cause can reduce the function of the creative and problem-solving parts of our brains.

  1. Discover Your Values

When I talk to women struggling in their jobs, it becomes obvious that their jobs are misaligned with their values, skill set, and ways of working.

They might be looking around and wondering why things seem to be easier for other people. They feel  deep down that they should be doing something more meaningful with their life.

If you’ve experienced any of these signs, it’s likely that something in your career or in your job as misaligned for you.

  1. Recognize the Patterns You Avoid

Most people go through life avoiding things or believing that the only way to eliminate patterns is through years of therapy. But, you can get to the root cause of your beliefs, develop a new understanding, and replace them with healthier beliefs quickly.

Our perspective and the way we think are what create or close down the opportunities in our lives. When you recognize limiting beliefs and behavior patterns, you can start changing them to create the life you want.

  1. Know Your Personality Type

Although personality tests only give you a piece of the larger puzzle, they can help you in gaining greater insight into who you are, and how you function and think.

But you still have to know how to apply them if you want to create change and greater self-awareness. Personality tests are just a tool for enabling change to occur.

Self-awareness is the key to success and fulfillment. When you know your unique value and focus your time and energy towards creating the life you want, the peace of mind that you gain will change your life.

You’ll no longer doubt whether you’re on the right path, whether you’re making the right decisions, or whether there’s something more for you.
