Worried You Aren’t Qualified for Something Else?

Ep: 178

Do you worry that you don’t have a special talent or skill set that’s unique to you?

It’s more common than you know for women to sell ourselves short when it comes to recognizing our own unique gifts and talents. We tend to focus on worrying about whether we’re good enough, or worse, convincing ourselves that we don’t have a unique skill or talent at all.

Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment, Blake unpacks the definition of “secret sauce”, helping you to recognize the natural gifts that you’re likely overlooking. If you’re trapped in the lie of questioning whether or not you have a unique set of skills, then it’s time to conquer the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to identify your unique secret sauce transferable skills. You’ll hear why it’s so common, especially for high-achievers, to hold onto the false beliefs that you’re not good enough or that you have nothing special to bring to the table. Everyone has a secret sauce. So, if you’re ready to find clarity and start to uncover what makes you unique, then this episode is for you.

Blake Schofield 0:05 Hi, I’m Blake Schofield, founder and CEO of The Bridge to Fulfillment, mom to three, USA Today top 10 professional coach, and former corporate executive who got tired of sacrificing my life for a comfortable paycheck. My mission is to expand women’s perspectives and empower them to achieve greater impact at home and work without sacrifice. This is The Bridge to Fulfillment.

Blake Schofield 0:39 It’s hard sometimes to look in the mirror and understand what’s the thing really standing in your way. You know, I had a wonderful conversation today with a woman who reminded me of a really common fear of worry that what if I don’t really have a secret sauce? What if I’m not qualified enough to do something else? Or what if what if there’s nothing really special about my skills? And here’s what I’ll tell you. It is impossible that you don’t have a secret sauce. Every single person does. You know, often we can look at people who seem to have figured out some of their skills and passions in awe and think that they’ve discovered exactly what their secret sauce skills are. But honestly, I’ll tell you, secret sauce skills is a lot more in depth than that. It’s a lot more than just understanding some of the things that you are naturally gifted at or interested in. It’s fundamental to who you are as a person. And every single person on this earth has been gifted, unique skills, perspective and gifts, about the way that they do things. So if you have some of these fears, I want you to know that while it’s common, it just isn’t true. In fact, I’ll tell you, I’ve even had women that are, you know, super young in their career, say, Well, I’m not experienced enough. I think I need x, y, z, or maybe I just don’t have enough foundation to be successful doing this work. I’ve also had some women who’ve known something was off. And if never really felt like what they’ve been doing for years was the right thing. You know, to be honest, I’ve been doing this work a long time. And far beyond the umbrella of this business, you know, I can see this stuff about my friends, family and co workers for years. It’s a gift of mine. And honestly, I’ve been doing it most of my life. But I too fell into the same trap of worrying that maybe my skills weren’t transferable, that maybe there wasn’t really anything unique about me beyond just how I had been successful in my prior career. What it really comes down to is being open to have the dialogue about what you believe to be true and what you’re experiencing. Because I can tell you that we all have limiting beliefs or fears that stop us from actually accomplishing what we want and need to accomplish. It’s as if we had a car, we were driving our car cross country for 20 years, and we never got a carwash. So the windshield, it’s super dirty. And part of the work of uncovering your fulfillment framework and your secret sauce skills. It’s like cleaning off the windshield of your car so that you can see clearly, you know, the most common belief that high achievers have is that I’m not good enough. So if you’re experiencing this, I want you to know, right that it’s normal, but it doesn’t mean it’s true. It’s always the false lie. If you are willing to seek expert help and share what you’re thinking and experiencing. I’ll tell you personally, I’ve never had a problem being able to help someone figure out even some of the deeper stuff. I’ve worked with so many people who are just like me, felt like they were doing all of these things, trying to figure out what the right path is. But there was always this unsettled feeling that there was something else. I spent 18 years in corporate retail and the vast majority of those I had this nagging feeling that there must be something different to do with my life, but I could never figure out what it was. Not only was that my path, like I said, I’ve helped a lot of people that have experienced that. And what I’ll tell you is one of the hardest things about being where you’re at if you can relate to that is that you try for so long to figure it out, that you begin to believe maybe it’s just not possible. You begin to believe maybe it’s not there are maybe something’s just wrong with me. And I want you to understand that I was exactly where you are. And I want you to know from the other side that that’s just not true. It’s like that because you cannot see the label from inside the bottle.

Blake Schofield 4:47 I spent 18 years trying to figure this out on my own. It didn’t mean that my secret sauce skills weren’t there. I just physically couldn’t see it. I had too much dirt on the windshield and I was sitting inside the bottle. So if you are worried that you might not be that talented. Maybe you don’t really have secret sauce, transferable skills, or you’re not really that unique or special. That is just a lie we get trapped in. And the longer you tell yourself that the longer you try to figure it out on your own, it’s like falling in quicksand and moving your hands on legs. The deeper and deeper you’ll get stuck, the more your brain will tell you. It’s not possible that there must be something wrong with me that there’s nothing sitting there. But it’s not true. It’s just a lie we all get trapped into. And the way to your more fulfilling life is to get help seeing the clear and full picture. This work fundamentally changed my life. And I have the joy of watching it change lives every single week. Your story, while it feels unique is no different. You aren’t broken. There isn’t anything wrong with you. What you are experiencing are just signs and symptoms that your life is misaligned. Clarity, alignment and empowered action are the keys to your freedom. Until next time, have a great week.
