Blake Schofield 0:05 Hi, I’m Blake Schofield, founder, and CEO of The Bridge to Fulfillment, mom to three, USA Today top 10 professional coach, and former corporate executive who got tired of sacrificing my life for a comfortable paycheck. My mission is to expand women’s perspectives and empower them to achieve greater impact at home and work without sacrifice. This is The Bridge to Fulfillment.

Blake Schofield 0:39 We get to a place in our lives at some point when what we are doing no longer works. We can choose to dig in our heels and keep doing what we are doing. Ignoring the growing signs that tell us this isn’t sustainable, is it making us happy or won’t get us where we want to go. Or we can choose the path of growth change in something new. The challenge is most of us don’t know what this really looks and feels like. We haven’t been taught how to understand our emotions, what they are telling us and how to question or sort through and process through what they mean. I often tell my clients that our emotions are a gift, they are telling us something, the challenges we don’t always yet know how to interpret them. But that’s a story for another day. For today, I want to share a key step in the process to creating transformational change in your life. In order to have long term certainty, you must embrace short term uncertainty. Remember the quote that I’ve shared before by Virginia Satir— “Most people prefer the certainty of misery to the misery of uncertainty.” In order to get what you want in life, you’ve got to get more comfortable being uncertain today. That means shifting your perspective, and moving from unknown being scary to seeing the unknown as an opportunity. After all, the only thing it really comes down to is understanding that where we are today is not where we want to be holding on to something that is the wrong thing will never move you forward. Which means the only way to get where you want is to take a chance, make a different choice and step into something new and likely unknown.

Blake Schofield 2:27 For those who are used to feeling comforted by feeling like they’re in control. This can feel really uncomfortable, but only because the tricks your mind plays on you see, we are hardwired to protect ourselves. So we create a false sense of safety in believing that what is known is safe. When very often the opposite is true. How do I know just as the woman who stayed in the abusive relationship for too long, the woman who took the job after red flags in the job search only to find yourself working for a micromanager who makes her life miserable. The woman who got put on a performance plan after staying in a job because she made a good income, even though she was dragging herself to work every single day. The woman who stayed in a marriage that she’s miserable in, only to find her health failing. In order to truly create the lives we want, we must be willing to seek out and embrace something new. In the short term. That means realizing that uncertainty truly is opportunity. Because anything else is getting you further away from what you want. And it means in the long term creating the life you want. You know, I’ll take that choice any day. Because I lived many, many years the other way, choosing the short term, what I knew what felt comfortable, the certainty of misery. Right. And that ended up spending well over a decade of my life that I cannot get back. And now I’m armed with a real life understanding of what the cost of that choice truly was. The freedom, peace of mind, impact and balance that I now have in my life is far beyond anything I could have ever expected. And that was the cost every single day of staying where I was, in addition to all the health impacts, last time, inability to be present my life. You name it, I probably couldn’t list it. And so the door to the unknown ended up being the greatest opportunity of my life. And when you have clarity and alignment on the right path, it likely will be exactly the same for you too.
