What If It Could Be Easy

Ep: 252

Does everything about your life feel complicated?

If the answer is yes, then you’re not alone. In our society, we’ve turned complexity into a type of social currency that’s rewarded.

Work hard! Overcome obstacles! Do the impossible!

But what if all of this difficulty and complexity could be washed away? What if the struggle wasn’t necessary to achieve your goals?

What if life could just be easy?

Today on The Bridge to Fulfillment®, Blake poses this very question, asking you to apply it to your life. It’s possible that the hills you have to climb to get where you want to be have easier routes than the ones you’re taking.

In this episode, you’ll learn why we’re conditioned to think that taking the hard road is the only path to success. You’ll discover how to make your life simpler by asking yourself how you can create more ease and setting yourself up for it from the start. You’ll learn how to overcome complexity and embrace simplicity in order to pave a smoother path to success.

What You’ll Learn:

  • A ‘What if’ question that can help simplify your life (0:43)
  • The work it takes to apply a shift in perspective (1:36)
  • The reason we make things harder than they need to be (2:28)
  • Why you should seek the simple answers over the complicated ones  (3:26)
  • A challenge for you to simplify (4:16)

Welcome back to another episode of The Bridge to Fulfillment®. Today, I want to start with just one simple question. What if it could just be easy? You know, I had a friend and mentor asked this of me quite some time ago. And I thought, what a beautiful question. What if life could just be easy?

Blake Schofield 1:00
What if this challenge in front of me could just be easy. And what was fascinating about it was it began to open up my perspective. To start to look for solutions, but also to see all of the reasons or the excuses or the things I believed stopped it from being easy. And through that enabled me to start to see and challenge some of the beliefs or the obstacles that I thought existed, or to start to see what were some easier or better path to accomplish things.

Blake Schofield 1:36
So it sounds so simple just to have one topic today. What if it could just be easy? And yet, learning how to apply this perspective to your life take some work, it takes some, some application, it takes digging a little bit deeper. And yet I see that by spinning the time to dig a little deeper upfront, you can stop yourself from spinning your wheels over and over and over again, wasting a lot of time and energy doing the wrong thing or avoiding doing the thing that you need to do, or just honestly overcomplicating things.

Blake Schofield 2:15
You know I recently was with a group of really talented people, and, I watched over and over and over again, a simple question, with very complicated answers. And I began to realize as a society, we are addicted to things being hard. We are rewarded for persevering through difficult times. We are encouraged to challenge ourselves and do hard things. We feel good when we accomplish things that weren’t easy. And so in doing so, we actually often are creating complexity, and we’re making things way harder than they need to be.

Blake Schofield 2:58
Because we believe that that’s the way it has to be. That it can’t possibly be easy. No, a mentor of mine, several years ago mentioned that people often ask for his advice because he achieved things they want to achieve. And yet when he tells them what to do, they usually disregard it. Because it seems too simple or too easy. And therefore that can’t be the right solution. And yet, I would tell you, the more and more I’ve gotten this journey, the more I realized that the answers are almost always simple. And the more complicated it is, the less likely it will be that we actually accomplish what we want.

Blake Schofield 3:35
And that the biggest challenge is spending the time to understand the ways of which we are overcomplicating it to get to what really matters, to get to the root cause, to get to how it could be easy. So we could simplify. You know, it’s far harder to communicate what we want in two sentences than it is to write an entire page or an entire paragraph. As a society, we don’t even understand truly the value of simplicity. And yet, if you look at marketing, man, those companies have it right? Look at Nike, “Just do it“. So simple, and memorable. And that’s why they’re successful.

Blake Schofield 4:16
And so whatever you’re facing today, whatever challenges in front of you, whatever feels unknown, I want you to challenge yourself, what if it could just be easy? And then allow yourself to start to think about what would easy look and feel like to you? And then what are the objections coming up that are telling you it’s not possible or it would be too hard or I’d have to do X. There is the gold because when you begin to see the things that you believe are stopping you from getting what you want, you can start problem solving to how to overcome that or actually identify if those things are true or not. And in doing so you move from a place of either having to hustle and grind, and push and shove. Or feeling overwhelmed and not knowing what to do next, to actually begin to problem solve, because almost everything can be simplified.

Blake Schofield 5:11
Life really is meant to be simple. We just believe that it needs to be complicated. And those that begin to understand they’re creating far more complications that need to exist, can begin to win in really beautiful ways with a lot less effort and a whole lot more ease. What if it could just be easy? Because it can.
